CoastSnap
Become a community scientist today by simply taking a photo!
CoastSnap cradles have been installed by the Plymouth Coastal Observatory at key coastal locations where anyone can help by taking a photo to help document our continually changing coastline.
You can find Dorset CoastSnap stations at:
- Chesil Beach – at the eastern end of the Chiswell Sea Defence, overlooking the pebble ridge.
- East Beach, West Bay – on the coast path leading up to the cliff.
- West Beach, West Bay – at the entrance to the harbour arm.

What are they for?
These are in place to encourage members of the public to take a snap shot of the sites and capture the current state of the shoreline, be it eroding or accreting, overall feeding into the monitoring of our coastal defences. This will increase public participation in coastal monitoring, raise awareness and provide a free data source.
